GEORGE CLOONEY
George Timothy Clooney was born on 6th May 1961 in Lexington, Kentucky. His aunt, Rosemary Clooney, was a singer and actress and his father, Nick, was a news anchor and television personality, and had grown up in awe of men such as CBS news anchor Edward R Murrow and Walter Cronkite. George was exposed to the entertainment industry from the day he was born, making his first appearance on television with his father when he was just 5 years old.
Clooney studied journalism at college, but grew tired of living in the shadow of his father. He dropped out and worked on a tobacco farm for a year. During this time, he was offered minor acting roles in a few small films, and caught the acting bug. Slowly but surely, Clooney broke onto the acting scene, making his debut in the American television series ER, where his natural charm and good looks made him an instant hit.
Since then, Clooney has acted in multimillion films, becoming one of the most well-known and loved celebrities in the world. Such movies include Batman and Robin (1997), O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) and Ocean's Eleven (2001). Eventually, he moved behind-the-scenes and took on directive and productive roles. He produced Syriana (2005) and was nominated for an Academy Award for his work in directing Good Night and Good Luck (2005), a film dedicated to his father about the clasg between famous news anchor, Edward R. Murrow and senator Joseph McCarthy. In 2013, he won the Academy Award for Best Picture for co-producing Argo and featured in popular sci-fi move Gravity.
Aside from his achievements in the film industry, Clooney is well known for his strong political beliefs, and is a constant target from right-wing personalities. When George W. Bush was elected for president in 2000, he openly admitted that he thought the man was "dim" and was completely against the Iraq War, stating "America's policies frustrate me. I think a war against Iraq is as unavoidable as it is senseless. I think it's coming. But I also think the real danger is going to be what happens after it." He has also organised and become involved in many political causes. For example, in 2006, George, his father and a few others travelled around Darfur in Sudan with cameras to reveal the war-ravaged state of the area and the struggles of those who live there. Wit the help of Brad Pitt and Matt Damon, he established the non-profit organisation Not On Our Watch to assist the people of Darfur. He has received a Nobel peace Prize Award and has been officially appointed a U.N. Peace Convoy.
George Clooney is renowned for not only his incredible acting talent and career, but his undertakings as a humanitarian and his interests in the world of politics. Over the years, Clooney has been dubbed "Hollywood's most eligible bachelor" by the tabloids, until his recent marriage to Amal Alamuddin in September 2014.
